This tutorial is done in Paint Shop Pro 9 but should be easy to adapt to all other versions. You will also need Animation Shop. Download the animated template Here. You will need an "unzip" program to unzip it. Unzip the template to your desktop. Let it just sit there and Open Paint Shop Pro.
Take this arrow with you to keep your place in this tutorial.
( 1 ) Select a photo of your beloved dog ... the size of the image should be 244 pixels wide by 301 pixels high. The exact size is important in order to fit the photo into the black area of the template. Select your image and get it sized to the necessary size and once you have it selected and sized go to FILE, SAVE AS, SAVE AS TYPE: Animation Shop Image, name it MY PET and save it to your desktop.
( 2) Go to FILE, NEW and open a new transparent image that is 176 pixels wide by 46 pixels high. You will be typing the name of your pet into that 176 X 46 image. Choose the color of font and the style of font and type your pets name. A name type with that precise size will fit into the little black area that will be below your pets photo. After you have finished the name, go to FILE, SAVE AS and SAVE AS TYPE: Animation Shop Image and name it MY PETS NAME and save it to your desk top also.
( 3 ) With Paint Shop Pro open, then Go to FILE, JASC PRODUCTS, LAUNCH ANIMATION SHOP (Again, this is how it is set up in Paint Shop Pro 9, Animation Shop may launch differently in other versions.)
( 4 ) When Animation Shop is open, go to FILE, OPEN and then browse your desktop to find "c_AnimatedDogTag_Template.gif and click on the template to open in Animation Shop. You will see that there is a total of 7 frames which make up the animation. ( Please note: Other templates have more or less frames) the animation is 7 frames so that the bone can swing back and forth on the little chain.
( 5 ) Reduce the size of the c_AnimatedDogTag_Template by using the roller on your mouse, and go to FILE, OPEN and browse your desktop to find the psp image of your pet .. click on it to open it in animation shop.
( 6 ) Then go to EDIT, SELECT ALL, DUPLICATE SELECTED and you will now see 2 images (frames) of your pet. Go to EDIT, SELECT ALL, DUPLICATED SELECTED and you now have 4 images (frames) of your pet. Again, go to EDIT, SELECT ALL, DUPLICATE SELECTED and there are now 8 images (frames) of your pet. Then, put your mouse on the very last image (frame), click on it to highlight it and go to EDIT, DELETE. You will now have 7 images (frames) of your pet. ( Make sure you duplicate your pic for as many frames as the template has.)
( 7 ) With the 7 frames (or as many frames as the template has.) of your pet active, click your mouse on the first frame and then go to EDIT, SELECT ALL then back to EDIT, COPY.
( 8 ) Now click on the first frame of the AnimatedDogTag_TEMPLATE and use the roller on your mouse to enlarge the frames so that the first frame is large enough for you to see and work with. Go to EDIT, SELECT ALL then go to EDIT, PASTE, INTO SELECTED FRAME. You will see the image of your pet appear .. do NOT click your mouse ... slide the mouse around until the image of your pet is perfectly centered in the black area inside the frame, THEN click your mouse to set it ... you now have 7 images (frames) of the animated frame with the photo of your pet inside. If you do not like the position of the photo, then go to EDIT, UNDO PASTE and do it again until you have the photo centered in that empty black area.
( 9 ) Now, you will want to insert the name that you made. Go to FILE, OPEN and browse to the file named MY PETS NAME and open it in Animation Shop.
( 10 ) Go to EDIT, SELECT ALL, DUPLICATE SELECTED and you now have 2 copies. Again, go to EDIT, SELECT ALL, DUPLICATE SELECTED and you now have 4 copies. AGAIN, go to EDIT SELEC ALL, DUPLICATE SELECTED and you have 8 copies. Click on the very last image (frame) and go to EDIT, DELETE. You now have 7 images (frames) or as many as your template has..
( 11 ) With the name active, click on the first frame and then go to EDIT, SELECT ALL. Then go back to EDIT, COPY and click on the Animated Dog Frame Tag_Template and with your roller on your mouse, enlarge it so that you can easily see where to put the name. Then, click on the first frame of the template and go to EDIT, SELECT ALL. Then go to EDIT, PASTE INTO SELECTED FRAME and again, do NOT click your mouse. Move it around until you get the name exactly where you want it, then click it.
( 12 ) Now, go to FILE, OPTIMIZATION WIZARD and on the first pop up, you should have a tick in ANIMATED GIF FILE and a tick in REPLACE THE CURRENT ANIMATION WITH THE OPTIMIZED VERSION. Hit NEXT. On the next dialog box, I move the slider that is on the left side all the way up to the top for the best quality.
( 13 ) Below the slider click on the word CUSTOMIZE and you will have the COLORS tab ... put a tick in OPTIZIMED OCTEE and NEAREST COLOR. On the OPTIMIZATION TAB there should be tics in the first 4 and the last choice should be blank. Select OKAY and then NEXT. Then choose NEXT again and you will see a sample of the original and a sample of the optimization .. click next and then click finish.
( 14 ) If you want to see your finished product, go up to VIEW and click on VIEW and then ANIMATION and you will see the template, with your dogs name and photo .. we hope! :>) When you're finished admiring your beautiful pet, go back up to VIEW and click ANIMATION again and that will close that ....
( 15 ) With the 7 images (frames) of your finished product open go to FILE, SAVE AS..the file "TYPE" should be CompuServ Graphics Interchange.gif .... and give it a name like MyPetsFinishedAnimatedTag and save it to your desktop or wherever you choose.
( 16 ) Your animated dog tag now has your pets name in photo inserted and is ready for you to share with friends and family!
